Why Shreyas Iyer Not Selected For T20 Series Against Afghanistan And All other Questions Asked By Akash Chopra?

When a team is announced for a specific series, some players unexpectedly return to the team, while others are left out without clear reasons . It’s usually about managing player workload or worries about injuries, but sometimes it’s just confusing. Like the Indian team for the three T20I matches against Afghanistan starting on January 11.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in the T20 cricket for the first time since the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final loss to England, and everyone is talking about it. However, some players who were left out are also worth discussing.

Shreyas Iyer situation is a bit confusing. He wasn’t part of the T20I plans for the whole of 2023. Then, out of the blue, he was made vice-captain for the last two matches against Australia in December.

He played well, scoring 53 in the final game, so it seemed like he would get a spot in the next series. But even though he was selected for the T20I series against South Africa, he didn’t actually get to play in any of the matches against Afghanistan T20 series going to start from 11 january.

Why Shreyas Iyer Not Selected? Is It Due To Rohit And Virat?

Shreyas Iyer has struggled against fast deliveries in longer matches, but that shouldn’t keep him out of T20Is. The main reason for not including Iyer might be the comeback of Rohit and Kohli. If they take up two top spots in the batting order, there might not be much room left for Iyer. However, the question is, shouldn’t the selectors have thought about this before bringing Iyer back for the series against Australia.

Another Question Asked By Akash Chopra About Team India Selection?

Shivam Dube made a comeback to the T20I squad for the Afghanistan series. He’s an all-rounder who bowls seam and was part of the team against Australia at home. Oddly, he wasn’t chosen for any matches in the South Africa tour.

Aakash Chopra questioned this, saying, “Dube played against Australia but not in South Africa. Now he’s back against Afghanistan. Also, where is Ishan Kishan? Any updates on him?” It turns out Kishen is taking a break because of “mental fatigue.” He was also let go from the Test squad for the South Africa series for the same reason.
