Talks about India’s team for the T20 World Cup 2024 have started, even though the tournament is more than two months away. Rohit Sharma is confirmed as the captain. But, it’s said that Virat Kohli might not be chosen. The tournament will be held in the West Indies and the USA, with 20 teams participating. It begins on June 1 and ends on June 29, with the final in Barbados. India is in Group A with the USA, Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada.
Virat Kohli in T20 World Cup 2024
Virat Kohli, the star player of the Indian cricket team, might not play in the T20 World Cup 2024. This is because some people are questioning his recent performances. They think he hasn’t been consistent in T20 matches, which are the shortest format of the game. The selectors, led by Ajit Agarkar, even talked to Kohli about changing his playing style to be more aggressive, but it didn’t seem to work well in recent matches against Afghanistan.
They’re also worried that the slow pitches in the West Indies won’t suit Kohli’s style. Instead, they’re considering younger players like Suryakumar Yadav and others for the team. Kohli’s performance in the upcoming IPL season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore could change things, though. Also, Kohli missed some matches due to family reasons, which might have affected his preparation for the T20 World Cup.
If Not Virat Kohli, Then Who?
If Virat Kohli doesn’t make it to the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, India still has many talented players who could take his place. One option is Yashasvi Jaiswal, a young player who’s been playing really well lately. He could team up with Rohit Sharma at the top of the batting order.
Another choice is Shubman Gill, who has shown he’s a great player in Test cricket. He could bring his skills to T20 matches too. Suryakumar Yadav is also a strong contender. He’s been doing well in both domestic and IPL cricket, with his aggressive style of batting.
Rinku Singh, a left-handed batter, could provide stability in the middle order with his ability to score runs consistently. And let’s not forget about Hardik Pandya, an all-rounder who can hit the ball really hard and bowl medium-pace. He brings a good balance to the team.
