What Comment Made By Maldives Ministers On PM Modi Trip to Lakshadweep?
Mariyam Shiuna, who is the Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment in the Maldives, had referred to PM Modi as a “clown” and “puppet” in posts on a social media platform. This happened after the Prime Minister shared pictures of his trip to Lakshadweep and encouraged Indians to visit the island. However, Shiuna deleted the tweets after facing criticism on the social media site.

Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed strongly criticized Mariyam Shiuna’s disrespectful comments about PM Modi, describing the language as “appalling.”
However, The Maldives government stated that they think freedom of expression is important but should be used responsibly and democratically. They emphasize that it shouldn’t promote hatred, negativity, or harm the close relationships between the Maldives and its international partners.
