As we are not far away from T20 world cup 2024 so there is a lot of pressure on BCCI to select the player for T20 World Cup 2024. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has made it clear that the captain of the T20 World Cup will not be Hardik Pandya but the captain of the Indian team Rohit Sharma will be the captain while Hardik Pandya will be the vice captain of the team.

Rohit Sharma Will Lead Team India in T20 World cup 2024

Rohit Sharma will be the captain of the Indian cricket team at the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA-West Indies, according to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. This announcement was made during the renaming ceremony of the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium to Niranjan Shah stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday.

During the announcement it was also made clear that Hardik Pandya will not be made the captain, Hardik Pandya will be made the vice captain for the T20 World Cup 2024.

What Exactly Jay Shah Said During The Event?

“Even though we didn’t win the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, we earned a lot of love by winning 10 matches in a row. I believe that under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India will lift the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados,” Shah mentioned in his speech while renaming the SCA Stadium to the Niranjan Shah Stadium on Wednesday. Rohit, along with head coach Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar, was present at the event where Shah made this statement.

Captaincy Debate Between Rohit And Hardik

The talk about who leads India in white-ball cricket has been buzzing since January 2023 when selectors chose Hardik Pandya as captain. He proved himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL), guiding the Gujarat Titans to victory in 2022 and reaching the final in 2023.

Hardik did a great job, forming a solid partnership with coach Ashish Nehra. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma’s performance in the IPL wasn’t shining, making the captaincy shift seem natural. During the ODI World Cup, Rohit’s form improved, but Hardik faced a major injury.

Now, Jay Shah’s comments hint that BCCI, maybe due to Hardik’s fitness concerns, could bring back Rohit for the big tournament. Will the ‘Hitman’ get another chance to grab some silverware?
