Who Is New CM For Chhattisgarh? All About Vishnu Deo Sai

Vishnu Deo Sai is set to assume the role of the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. As a tribal leader and seasoned politician who previously served as a Union minister, Sai has emerged unexpectedly as the chosen candidate after a week-long suspense surrounding the chief ministerial post.

Despite being among the top contenders for the position, he was not initially considered the frontrunner in a competition that included figures like Raman Singh and Renuka Singh. However, in a surprising turn of events, the observers formally announced Vishnu Deo Sai’s name as the Chief Minister following their meeting on Sunday, marking a significant development a week after the BJP secured the state from the Congress in the Hindi heartland.

Who Is Vishnu Deo Sai?

Vishnu Deo Sai, a prominent Indian politician, held various significant positions in his political career. Notably, he served as the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2020 to 2022. Hailing from the Kanwar tribe and born in Jashpur, he began his political journey as a member of the Madhya Pradesh assembly from 1990 to 1998, predating the formation of Chhattisgarh as a separate state.

Sai gained national prominence as the Union Minister of State for Steel in the initial Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Furthermore, he became Chhattisgarh’s second tribal chief minister after Ajit Jogi, marking a significant milestone in the state’s political landscape.

Vishnu Deo Sai, a four-time Lok Sabha member from Raigarh, secured victories in consecutive elections from 1999 to 2014. Despite not receiving a ticket in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he remained an influential political figure.

In the 2023 Chhattisgarh assembly elections, Vishnu Deo Sai emerged victorious from the Kunkuri constituency in north Chhattisgarh, defeating the incumbent Congress MLA. His roots as an agriculturist reflect his connection to the grassroots, adding depth to his political career.

Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed a sincere commitment to the principles of ‘Sabka Vishwas’ and the assurances made to the people of Chhattisgarh under ‘Modi Ki Guarantee.’ As the newly appointed Chief Minister of the state, he pledges to diligently work towards fulfilling these promises.

His immediate focus is on providing 18 lakh ‘Awas’ (homes) to the residents, demonstrating a strong dedication to addressing housing needs and enhancing living conditions.

Why BJP Faced Criticism?

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced criticism for delays in announcing the chief ministerial candidates for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The party appointed observers to finalize the names, and while Vishnu Deo Sai’s name was the first to be disclosed, suspense lingers over the chief ministerial selections for the other two states.

Despite the criticism, Sai’s commitment to fulfilling promises and tackling key issues signals a new phase in Chhattisgarh’s political landscape under his leadership.
