Ishan Kishan, a popular wicketkeeper-batsman for the Indian cricket team, recently came back to play competitive cricket at the DY Patil T20 Cup on Tuesday. Since then he is trending on social media because His decision to take a break during India’s Tour of South Africa had sparked attention.

Following his break, he was not selected for the T20 series against Afghanistan and the Test series against England. The coach, Rahul Dravid, emphasized that for Ishan to return to the national team, he needs to participate in some form of cricket.

Ishan Kishan Back to Competitive Cricket

Ishan Kishan came back to play competitive cricket in the 18th DY Patil T20 Cup 2024. Playing for RBI against Route Mobile Limited, he helped dismiss Sumit Dhekale by stumping him off Sayan Mondal’s bowling. When batting, Kishan scored 19 runs off 12 balls, hitting two boundaries and a six before getting out. However, his return was marked by a big loss, with his team losing by a considerable 89-run margin to Route Mobile Limited.

Ishan Kishan Not Participated in Ranji Trophy

The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, Ishan Kishan, decided not to play in the Ranji Trophy for his home state Jharkhand. Instead, he chose to train with Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya in Baroda, preparing for the upcoming IPL. 

Ishan Kishan was part of the Indian squad for the South Africa Test series last year but taken out his name for personal reasons. His last game for India was in a T20I match in November last year, and he hasn’t been participated in recent Ranji matches for Jharkhand.

Ishan Kishan Controversy With BCCI

Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated that all cricketers under central contracts must play red-ball cricket in domestic matches. He emphasized that there will be no tolerance for excuses. Shah, speaking at the renaming ceremony of the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, mentioned that players should represent their state teams if the coach or captain calls upon them.

This declaration came amid the Ishan Kishan controversy, where reports suggested that BCCI asked him to play for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. Shah clarified that while Kishan was mentioned, the rule applies to all cricketers not part of the national team.
