Over the past 90 years, India and England have played 131 Test matches. The English team has been more successful, winning 50 matches, while India has won 31, and 50 matches ended in a draw. In matches played in India, out of 64 Tests, India has won 22, and England has won 14, with 28 ending in draws.

When it comes to winning Test series, England has been more dominant, winning 19 series compared to India’s 11. Five series ended in draws. In India, out of 16 series played, India won 8, England won 5, and 3 ended in draws. England’s last series win in India was in 2012.

England Tour of India in 1933-34

During the England tour of India in 1933-34, they played a three-match Test series. In the first Test in Mumbai from December 15-18, 1933, England won by 9 wickets, scoring 438 and 40/1, while India managed 219 and 258.

The second Test at Eden Gardens from January 5-8, 1934, ended in a draw. England scored 403 and 7/2, and India, following on, made 247 and 237.

In the third Test in Chennai from February 10-13, 1934, England won by 202 runs. They scored 335 and declared at 261/7, while India made 145 and 249. This concluded the series with England securing two victories and one match ending in a draw.

During the England tour of India in 1951-52 for a 5-match Test series:

  1. 1st Test in Delhi (Nov 02-07, 1951): England scored 203 and 368/6, India scored 418/6d. The match ended in a draw.
  2. 2nd Test in Brabourne, Mumbai (Dec 14-19, 1951): India posted 485/9d & 208, while England scored 456 & 55/2. The match ended in a draw.
  3. 3rd Test at Eden Gardens (Dec 30, 1951 – Jan 04, 1952): England scored 342 & 252/5d, India scored 344 & 103/0. The match ended in a draw.
